So we've dealt with a bunch of lying the past four weeks or so. All boys. Mostly it's been denial over who's gotten into mischief in the garage. Greg has been the only honest one in our bunch of boys. David and Ean, well, we've had issues, to say the least.
This morning, lying has taken a new form. So far, it's been mostly denial of guilt. This morning, Kent dealt with actual framing of a sib.
Picture, Kent's out of the shower and Ean is playing a joke on his dad. Ean is holding the door shut so it's not easy to open and Kent's playing along.
I'm in the shower so all I hear is bits and pieces. There's a cry, there's the sound of someone in trouble by daddy and then Kent comes in to tell me that David had tried to help Ean hold the door shut and that Ean chased him down and bent his fingers back.
Unfortunately for Ean, this sort of thing has happened before so it wasn't hard to believe. However in talking with Dave, Kent gleaned the subtle hints we've learned that gives Dave away as lying.
Ean, in an extremely mature manner, let his dad know that Dave was lying. Dave's response showed that yes indeed he was lying. It was a frame up and Dave got exactly what he wanted, he got Ean in trouble.
I responded immediately by calling my mom and letting know that her preplanned visit with the twins was canceled. Greg was coming alone.
After a big point of showing Greg going out the door with his dad, there we were with Dave in tears begging to go to Mormor's house. No son, there are consequences to your actions and I'm not rewarding deviousness with a play date at grandma's house.
We will be talking about it more this weekend. Really, it's not how I pictured the day starting. Those wonderful parenting moments? Challenges like this morning make me appreciate those even more.
