I went to my girls parent teacher conferences yesterday and it was ok. Nothing really wrong but I have an odd feeling, just odd.
We already had a meeting over Kate about a month ago. Kate is really behind in her reading. She's tested about a full grade level below where she should be. All the tests they do now, it's really kinda crazy. I noticed with Jane, there was a huge panic over Jane's reading but on her own, when she was ready, she caught the reading bug. Jane's still a little bit behind her grade level but she's getting pushed by an awesome resource room teacher to do her absolute very best.
Anyway, KATE! Kate has an IEP for speech. Kate is beyond the point of needing speech but her speech teacher has hit her with all kinds of tests and she is deficiant in vocabulary. Ah-HA, a language deficiancy. What this means is that we can keep Kate in speech for a whole 'nother year. So she's still under the IEP umbrella which gives the school more cause to work at helping her with her reading and any other school issues.
We have an IEP meeting in a few weeks.
Now Jane. Jane's school work is going swimmingly. She's having a hard time adjusting to working alone and unsupervised but she's getting better at it. So glad.
Her teacher did express concern that Jane seems lonely and doesn't have any close friends. *sigh* This is heartbreaking for me as a mom. I remember being so lonely in fifth grade and I don't want Jane to experience that same lonliness. We'll try harder to get her together more often with friends.
So that was parent teach conference. All in all I felt much better then when I went to Kate's winter one last year and the teach informed me she had stopped working a month ago. *eye roll*

My Job
I know, I know. I already HAVE a job. It includes five children with daily needs that never end. The mothering never ends and yet, a job literally fell in my lap and it was as if I had custom ordered the job specifics.
First of all, I can't work during the day. Not right now. With three littles, the cost of daycare would eat up anything I made, so that is just not doable at this time. I can't work very long, since evening or nights are my only choice, and I have a family that needs taking care of during the day, I'd do a great disservice to those children if I couldn't function during the day from fatigue.
Let me explain first that my neighbor/friend's husband was cleaning this business center. Here in Pocatello it was the old Federal building that a few businessmen bought and remodeled. One of the investors/owners also has a cleaning center here in town specializing in his brand of cleaning supplies. Turns out the manager of the cleaning center wasn't fulfilling her duties, several "secret shoppers" had very bad reports and she was canned, my friend's husband was promoted to manager and suddenly the building needed a janitor.
Cleaning this building is part time work for one person. It takes about four hours 7 pm and 7 am to clean. You can pick and choose when you want to be there, as long as it's during that time and of course to clean the building for Monday, you have the whole weekend to choose when to go.
The job was offered to my friend and she said she'd only do it if I did it with her. That gives us each 10 hours a week, we can be done between nine and ten most nights when we work together and the flexibility to have someone cover the whole building if one of us is sick or out of town.
Perfect!
The pay is more then minimum and Kent's told that for the type of work we're doing, it's pretty good.
I do miss being home in the evening. The twins grab their shoes and try to put them on to come with me when they figure out it's time to go. This month due to Kent's schedule, he's teaching a ham radio class every Thursday night until ten, I have Thursdays off and work Fridays by myself. Last week was the first Thursday off so I was putting kids to bed. We watched a show and during the show Greg, who was sitting between my legs, kept turning around throwing his arms around my neck to hug me. I do believe that boy has missed me.
I'm only earning between $350 and $400 a month but this means that I can help with family expenses. I'm putting between $25 and $50 in savings every paycheck. I'm paying for Kate's dance and Jane's taekwondo. My mom has been paying for the kids fun stuff for the past year and this recession is hitting her hard since all her money is tied up in the market. It's nice to not have to ask.
I also get to pay tithing again. Oh I've paid here and there for the yearly craft show or a custom order that's come my way but it's been a long time, over a decade since I've had a steady paycheck. It's such a good feeling to pay tithing.
Talking with my friend, now working partner, I found out she pays tithing at her church too and she agrees with the blessings of tithing. She's been attending a baptist church that she and her family have really liked.
A few observations from work. There's a few state representative offices that we clean and you can tell an election is coming up. Some have been frantically cleaning house dumping huge amounts of files/papers/books/pamphlets. I'm guessing someone isn't running for another term.
Another observation, some offices just have a better feeling then others. There's a few offices that feel cold and I haven't quite figured out why. One office in particular doesn't have a nice feeling at all, but it's a pain in the arse to clean so I think that's possibly tainted my judgment. It's the only office with an alarm, W A Y at the other end of the office where we enter. There's 30 seconds to unlock the door, go to the next door which has a punch code, right under the This office keeps no cash sign, then down the hallway flipping lights so you can see, to punch the code.
Now a few problems with this scenario. The whole building is locked down with the only method of entering is through one door using a punch code. There's not random people from the street drifting in and out after hours. Throw in the sign about not having cash and one can start wondering why the frell it's necessary to have an alarm AND a punch code on the second door to actually get into the office.
Oh and the punch code sits right next to an open receptionist window, so someone could just hop over that if they really had a plot against this company. I just don't see it happening! lol
Last week someone left a note on the alarm for us to please vacuum the entire office.
That really kinda rubbed me wrong because it implies that sometimes we don't do the whole office, which isn't the case!! In the offices we do daily, we vacuum thoroughly about once a week. On other days we do main traffic areas and spot check individual offices. Because the alarm office is only twice a week we tend to be a lot more thorough when we go in.
My other pet peeve about them, they're pigs. Always food garbage in individual garbage cans, stuff overflowing from the break room garbage and that's the office most likely to spill stuff on the carpet.
Anyway, I'm a working woman again. Earning something, helping my family and building a job history again. Bonus, I'm getting exercise in while working and finally improved my diet enough I'm noticing a difference.
*WOOT* It's all good! *laugh*
